Stay Warm & Safe: Your Winter Furnace Safety Checklist

Untitled design (11)

Winter’s here, and your furnace is working overtime to keep you warm and cozy… but while you’re enjoying the heat, don’t forget about furnace safety! A little preventative maintenance and awareness can go a long way in preventing hazards and ensuring your family stays safe and sound all season long.

Nebrasky has your winter furnace safety checklist:

1. Schedule annual maintenance: The best way to ensure your furnace is running smoothly and safely is to have it inspected annually by Nebrasky’s team of experienced and knowledgeable technicians. We can identify potential problems, clean components, and ensure everything is in good working order.

2. Change your air filter: A dirty air filter restricts airflow, making your furnace work harder and potentially overheat. Change your filter every 1-3 months, especially during periods of heavy use.

3.  Keep the area around your furnace clear: Ensure the area around your furnace is free of clutter, flammable materials (like boxes, paper, and paint), and anything that could obstruct airflow.

4.  Test your carbon monoxide detectors: Carbon monoxide (CO) is a colorless, odorless gas that can be deadly. Make sure your CO detectors are working properly and replace batteries as needed (also, consider installing a CO detector near your furnace!).

5.  Vent properly: Ensure that outdoor vents are clear of snow, ice, and debris to prevent carbon monoxide buildup inside your home.

6.  Know the signs of trouble: Pay attention to unusual smells, strange noises, or a sudden increase in your energy bills. These could be signs of a furnace problem that needs immediate attention.

7.  Don’t attempt DIY repairs: Furnace repairs can be dangerous. Always call Nebrasky for any repairs, maintenance, or emergency service.

By following these simple tips, you can help keep your home warm, safe, and comfortable all winter long. If you experience any problems with your furnace, call Nebrasky immediately at 800-796-6853!
