Your Guide to Heat Pumps

What is a heat pump?

Heat pumps are versatile systems installed outside your home that provide both heating and cooling. They work by transferring heat from the outside air or ground into your home during the winter, and reversing the process to cool your home in the summer. Heat pumps are known for their energy efficiency and cost savings.

Types of Heat Pumps

  • Air Source

Air source heat pumps, which can be used to heat or cool single rooms and whole homes, extract heat from the air outside and distribute it inside your home. During warmer months, this process is reversed.

  • Ground Source/Geothermal

Ground source (or geothermal) heat pumps use the consistent underground temperature to provide 2-in-1 heating and cooling that is safe and sustainable.

WHAT CAN I SAVE ON REBATES & TAX CREDITS?*

MOST HEAT PUMPS ARE ELIGIBLE FOR UP TO A $2,000 TAX CREDIT. THE NYS CLEAN HEAT PROGRAM OFFERS INCENTIVES FOR FULL LOAD AND DECOMMISSIONING HEAT PUMP INSTALLATIONS.

Full Load = Your new heat pump can reasonably heat the entire home for temperatures above 6 degrees, but you’re leaving your fossil fuels as a back-up.
Decommissioning = Your existing natural gas, propane, or oil HVAC system is removed once your new heat pump system is in place.
