YOUR GUIDE TO HEAT PUMPS
What is a heat pump?
A heat pump is part of a home heating and cooling system and is installed outside your home. In cooler months, a heat pump pulls heat from the cold outdoor air and transfers it indoors, and in warmer months, it pulls heat out of indoor air to cool your home.
Types of heat pumps
Air Source
Air source heat pumps, which can be used to heat or cool single rooms and whole homes, extract heat from the air outside and distribute it inside your home. During warmer months, this process is reversed.
Ground Source/Geothermal
Ground source (or geothermal) heat pumps use the consistent underground temperature to provide 2-in-1 heating and cooling that is safe and sustainable.

The warmer, cooler, easier way to heat and cool your home
Today’s heat pumps are a better, more convenient, and more cost-effective way to keep your home comfortable all year long, without burning fossil fuels like oil, propane, or natural gas.
Generous federal, state, and utility incentives are available to help lower your cost.
WHAT CAN I SAVE ON REBATES & TAX CREDITS?*
Most heat pumps are eligible for up to a $2,000 tax credit. The NYS Clean Heat Program offers incentives for full load and decommissioning heat pump installations.
